Funding Programs That Help You

live better

Figuring out how to pay for health and disability support shouldn’t feel like decoding a puzzle. At Platinum Health, we’re all about making things easier. That’s why we’ve put together this quick guide to the major funding programs available in Australia that can help cover the cost of your healthcare essentials.

Whether you're looking for mobility aids, continence support, or nutritional supplements, chances are there's a program out there ready to back you up — and we’re here to help you access it.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

If you’re under 65 and have a permanent disability, your plan might cover a whole range of helpful items — from daily essentials to bigger-ticket assistive tech.

  • Mobility aids and continence support
  • Assistive tech and equipment
  • Home modifications
  • Day-to-day health and wellbeing products

At Platinum Health, we make it easy to order the products you need — and we support all NDIS plans:

My Aged Care

If you’re over 65 and want to keep living safely and comfortably at home, My Aged Care can help make that possible. It's the Australian Government’s main way of delivering aged care support — giving you access to services, funding, and equipment that make daily life a little easier.

Depending on your needs, there are two main programs under My Aged Care that might support you:

Home Care Packages (HCP)

These are tailored care packages designed for older Australians with more complex or ongoing care needs. If you're eligible, you’ll receive funding to spend on services and products that help you live independently — including:

  • Continence and hygiene products
  • Mobility equipment and fall-prevention tools
  • Nutritional supplement drinks and dietary aids
  • Personal care and in-home health support

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

If your needs are a bit lighter or you're just starting to need extra help at home, CHSP offers entry-level support — like access to mobility aids, continence supplies, and other essentials to keep you feeling safe and supported.

How We Can Help

If you're already receiving My Aged Care support, we can work directly with your provider or care coordinator to organise the products you need — fast and with minimal fuss.

We’re here to help you:

  • Choose the right products
  • Prepare quotes and supporting info
  • Streamline orders through your care provider

We make it easy to get what you need, so you can focus on living well at home.

How to Apply for My Aged Care

Not signed up yet? No worries — here’s how to get started:

Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)

If you’ve served our country, you may be eligible for funding through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) — and that support is designed to help you live safely, independently, and with dignity at home.

One of the key programs you might access is the Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP). Through RAP and related services, the DVA helps cover a wide range of aids and equipment to support your health, wellbeing, and everyday needs.

You might qualify for support if:

  • You’re a veteran, war widow(er), or eligible family member
  • You hold a Gold or White DVA Health Card
  • You’ve been assessed as needing assistive equipment or clinical care at home

Support you could receive includes:

  • Mobility aids like walking frames, scooters, or wheelchairs
  • Personal care and continence products
  • Home safety equipment like shower chairs, grab rails, and bed supports
  • Community nursing or home-based clinical services

We’re here to make the process smooth and stress-free. From product advice to supplying quotes and paperwork, we’ll help you every step of the way.

You’ve taken care of us — now it’s our turn to take care of you.

How to Apply for DVA Support

Getting started is easier than you think. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Speak to your GP, specialist, or community nurse — they’ll assess your needs and determine eligibility for RAP or other support
  • Request a referral or prescription for the item(s) you need
  • The referral is sent to a DVA-approved provider (that’s us!) to supply the approved products
  • We’ll take care of the rest — including quotes, delivery, and any necessary paperwork

Not sure what you’re entitled to? Just give us a call on 1300604499, and we’ll help guide you through the process — no pressure, just support.

Home Care Packages (HCP)

If you’re an older Australian wanting to stay safe, supported, and independent in your own home, Home Care Packages (HCP) can help you do just that.

Funded by the Australian Government through My Aged Care, these packages give you access to a range of services and products that support your health and wellbeing as you age.

You might qualify for an HCP if:

  • You’re over 65 (or over 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples)
  • You’re starting to need help with everyday tasks or managing your health at home
  • You’d benefit from regular support, but want to remain living independently

There are four levels of Home Care Packages, based on how much support you need — from basic help to more complex care needs.

With an HCP, you can get funding for:

  • Mobility aids like walkers, wheelchairs, and bathroom safety equipment
  • Continence products and personal care items
  • Nutritional supplements, mealtime support, and daily living tools
  • Home safety modifications like rails, ramps, or alert systems

If you already have a Home Care Package, we can work directly with your care provider to supply the products you need — quickly, easily, and with a smile.

Not sure what’s included in your package? We’re always happy to work with your coordinator or case manager to sort out the details and get everything organised for you.

How to Apply for a Home Care Package

Getting started with a Home Care Package is easier than you might think:

  • Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit https://www.myagedcare.gov.au/assessment/apply-online
  • Book a free in-home assessment with the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)
  • Receive your package approval and level (this can take a little time, so be sure to get in early!)
  • Choose a Home Care Package provider who’ll help you manage your funds and services
  • Start selecting the support and products you need — that’s where we come in!

Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Program – Victoria

If you or someone you care for needs long-term tube feeding support at home, the Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN) Program in Victoria may be able to help.

The program is run by Cardinal Health in partnership with the Victorian Government, and it's designed to support people who rely on tube feeding due to chronic illness, disability, or recovery needs.

You might qualify for HEN support if:

  • You live in Victoria
  • You’ve been prescribed long-term enteral (tube) feeding
  • You’ve been assessed by a healthcare professional as needing ongoing nutritional support at home

Once approved, the program can provide:

  • Enteral nutrition formula tailored to your dietary needs
  • Feeding pumps, giving sets, and accessories
  • Support tools to make daily nutrition management easier

With the HEN Program, you can access these essential items at no cost — helping you or your loved one stay healthy and supported at home.

How to Apply for the HEN Program

Getting set up with the HEN Program is a coordinated process through your healthcare team. Here’s how to get started:

  • Speak to your doctor, hospital dietitian, or specialist about your need for long-term enteral feeding
  • They’ll assess your eligibility and complete a referral to the HEN Program (Victoria only)
  • Cardinal Health will review the referral and arrange delivery of the required supplies to your home
  • You or your carer will receive ongoing support and deliveries as part of your approved care plan

If you think you or someone you support might qualify, have a chat with your healthcare provider — or reach out to us and we’ll help guide you in the right direction.

Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS)

Managing incontinence can feel overwhelming — but you're not alone, and support is available. The Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) offers direct financial assistance to help you purchase the continence products you need to stay comfortable, independent, and in control.

Funded by the Australian Government, CAPS provides an annual payment to eligible people living with permanent and severe incontinence, helping reduce the cost of essential supplies.

You might qualify for CAPS if:

  • You’re an Australian permanent resident aged 5 or older
  • You have a permanent and severe incontinence issue due to a neurological condition or another long-term health condition
  • You have a Centrelink or DVA pension, or hold an eligible health card
  • You’re not receiving continence products through another government program (e.g. NDIS or DVA RAP)

Once approved, you can use your CAPS funding to purchase:

  • Disposable and reusable continence products
  • Bed protection and mattress covers
  • Personal care aids that support incontinence management

And yes — you can absolutely use your CAPS funds with Platinum Health to order trusted, high-quality continence care products delivered right to your door.

How to Apply for CAPS

Applying is simple — and we’re here to support you every step of the way:

  • Download the CAPS Application Form from the CAPS website
  • Get your healthcare professional (such as a GP, nurse, or continence specialist) to complete the medical assessment section
  • Submit your completed form to the Department of Health via mail or email (details on the form)
  • Once approved, you’ll receive annual payments directly into your nominated bank account

Need help choosing the right continence products or want a quote to support your application? Just give us a call on 1300604499 — we’re here to help, without judgement.

State and Territory Equipment Schemes

Every state and territory in Australia has programs to help people access the tools they need to live independently.

Here are just a few:

These schemes can help cover costs for items like wheelchairs, walking aids, or continence products — even if you’re not eligible for NDIS or My Aged Care.

Tip: Check with your local health department to see what you might be eligible for, or give us a call and we’ll help you figure it out.

Community and Charity Supports

Sometimes, the best support comes from the heart of the community. There are amazing organisations offering extra help for people who need it most.

You might be eligible for:

These supports can make all the difference when you need that extra boost — and we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
